film.guardian.co.uk — "Once, it was the greatest show on TV. Every episode was brimming with imagination, excitement and some of the sharpest one-liners to come out of America for decades. But above all it was smart. Then it all changed. A new guard took over and ripped up the rules." Great read on the destruction of this once-beloved show.

Let's be honest. There are about four good episodes from the first season. The problem (about season 10) was that they returned to really shallow humor, without social commentary. It became a crap mirror of pop culture, as opposed to a biting, edgy show. Definitively, i would say when Matt Groneing started futurama. That is where all the good episodes went. Also, when Marge got a boob job. That just pissed me right off.

I will say pre 2000 was all the best Simpsons ever. In 2000, it seems like every episode was trying to get the story line done as quickly as possible which I really dislike.

why the heck is gradeahonky being dug down!? He's agreeing with an article that has (to date) 1800+ diggs! I totally agree with gradeahonky. It's not clever comedy anymore, that's why I stopped watching it like 4-5 years ago. Maybe I'll catch an episode once every other month if there's nothing else on TV... maybe. As far as I'm concerned, the new king in town is The Family Guy. Even if sometimes it's not clever, it's a hell of a lot funnier than The Simpsons ever were and I used to be a big fan of The Simpsons too.gradeahonky, I gave you my digg man. The others who dugg you down don't know squat.

Suck? No. Imho Simpsons is probably the ONLY tv series that have kept insanely great quality (and fun) through all it's seasons. Granted some eps are worse and some are better. But Simpsons is the reliable rock that always, always deliver.André HedetoftGeek Movie Directorhttp://www.andrehedetoft.com

Actually I just got around season 18 in my cable and the Ice Cream man was really Funny, specially the dressing sequence. I dont know, I think the simpsons hasnt really lost "it" or at least they recovered it in this season., but I understand is comedy after all and comedy is just hit and miss. How to spot a bad Simpsons episode?*It stars grandpa (unless is the Hells Fish episode)*It stars Marge.(except that one episode they do the thelma and louise ending)*It starts with a completely different setup*Its about the simpsons going somewhere (except Japan)*The writers complain through the characters about how hard their work is*The first 5 minutes suck.

It must have started sucking sometime in the future because it rules right now!

I'm referring to the type of jokes that are only relevant now, like the Bush jokes, conservative jokes etc. They're all well and good, but there's a time and a place for them and I don't think the Simpsons are it.

To answer your question, it started sucking with the very first episode. Now watch me get death threats. =/
