I don't know how anyone dares say that Sony haven't made the biggest attempt at making a true next gen machine! Given that most places reckon visually the PS3 and the X360 will be roughly the same (better gpu on the 360, more powerful cpu on the ps3 when used correctly), this is what I still see....Storage:-PS3 - Blue rayXbox - DVD, useless you want a HD-DVD which isn't going to be supported for gamesPS3 - Just about every common memory card format, which can be used in your PC, or PSP, phone etcXBox 360 - Expensive 360 only memory card, which is max 64 megs, which 8 megs of which gets reserved for patchesPS3 - 20 gig hdd as standard, 60 out the box max, with the ability to swap in any sata drive, without voiding your warrantyXBox 360 - no hdd as standard, smaller hdd in the upper pack, no way to swap it outVideo out:-PS3 - Digital, HDMI in formats upto 1080p, plus standard connect multi av so you can use your older cables if you wishXbox 360 - Analog, upto 1080p (only via component / vga), via some firmware hack. New cable connect, so all your old ones don't workNetworking:-PS3 - built in 10/100, plus wifi supporting WPA on their premium modelXBox 360 - built in 10/100 - no wifi, unless you want to pay 20 quid for a WEP connectControllers:-PS3 - 4 usb controller ports, plus a hub of 7 bluetooth devices - loads of support from people like logitech for their class 720 wheelXbox 360 - 2 usb, plus a none standard wireless connect, which they will not give out to manufactures (eg wireless guitar)PS3 - made the L2 / R2 buttons analog and added tilt featureXbox 360 - removed the analog functionality on the ABXY buttons, and moved their white / black buttons to the shouldersHomebrew:-PS3 - linux booting from hdd, kernel patches already available to make most distros readyXbox 360 - some homebrew developer networkOther things:-PS3 - backwards compatibility, only approx 3% of games don't work, excellent virtual memory card supportXbox 360 - a much smaller list of compatible games, but you can probably purchase a patch from xbl if enough people request itPS3 - power unit housed inside the consoleXbox 360 - disgusting 'back to the amiga 500' power brick, with a short-ish cable so it needs to be relatively close to the 360 itself.To me, everything that made the xbox hang on as long as it did (modding, hdd, xbmc) will be available out the box for the ps3. Whereas MS have just stamped it all out.As for live / sony online - yea, 360 has the lead here at the moment, but people seem to forget that Sony has been running one of the most sucessful MMORPGs for the last 7 or so years, in the form of Everquest. They have the experience and the ability to get it right.Rant over.
