The US is one of the only countries in the world that maintain military bases in OTHER SOVEREIGN NATIONS. Don't even begin to tell me that the US isn't an Empire. Try doing some reading on the PNAC and check out their policy papers ... they WANT the US to be an empire for the entire century (hence the name).

Precisely. It was the fact that the Senate was Democratic, the Congress was Republican and the President was Democratic that caused some good work to be done. Compromise had to happen. It is when the Republicans swept all three (making themselves a monopoly) that all the really retarded stuff happened. It was a blank cheque for the Moral Majority crew to start screwing with the system.
