mashable.com — Scheduled for early-to-mid 2010, Firefox 3.6 promises a number of major feature improvements over the current generation, so much so that it could actually see a bigger number jump (in the same manner that Firefox 3.5 was originally called ?3.1,? until its newness made it more than just an incremental release).

What happened to the completely new browser they were working on about a year ago. Which looked really good, but completely different. Ok it was Aurora: <a class="user" href="http://www.adaptivepath.com/blog/2008/08/04/aurora-concept-video-part-1/">http://www.adaptivepath.com/blog/2008/08/04/aurora ...</a> It looked really cool, but maybe a bit too much of memory hog.

When Firefox is using 1GB, a third of the max RAM on a 32-bit OS and locks up, the price of RAM has nothing to do with it.

SMIL is crucial for replacing Flash with open standards based web page coding.

You think a major software project like Firefox should only focus on the next release and have no other plans?

I wish they'd stop coming up with random features that 5 % of the population will use and instead just focus on performance and a better API. That way the feature improvements could be provided by the addon makers, and you could avoid bloating the browser. Also, I'd love to see some more adaptation of the HTML 5 draft. By the time FF3.6 comes out it could very possibly be mature enough to fully implement.

Chrome is fast but dull do to a lack of features.FFs add ons are certainly innovative, but there's just none that I really need. Opera's got ad blocking, a mail account you can manage gmail in, and the all-in-one-sidebar, built into it. In fact, the AIO sidebar add on is based on Opera's.I just checked out stylish-seems neat. I have no use for it myself, but I notice some options have scripts for Opera, so it doesn't look too FF-centric, and I can do page zoom (another Opera innovation) and change font colors as well like No Squint. all without having to add on and anything that will further decrease it's already sluggish performance or compromise security. And it's faster than FF, with lower memory usage and better rendering, too. Add to that a built in torrent client based on bit torrent, built in rss feeder that's perfect, speed dials, password manager, and opera unite turns the browser into a server which I've been using to file trade w/ friends directly for two weeks now. I kind of think it's the best kept secret on the web irt to browsing, and it satisfies all my needs, but if FF satisfies yours, more power to you.

People need to get their noses out of Firefox's ass, this leaky buggy memory hog locks up on me just about every goddamn day.
