While the concept for this article is a good one, the comments are pretty dumb. The 'Lasso' problem on the second page is from using cords that are too long, not from poor cable management. The monitor on the floor isn't from a KVM, but some bloke probably is storing there because there wasn't a better place. On top of that, the 'leaning tower of servers' isn't from using a rack that's too big, it's from manufacturers who don't sell strong enough rack-mount 'ears' to mount the unit to the front. For example, Cisco 2600 and 3600 series switches NEED cables plugged in to balance the unit out.
What are you talking about? Excess cable running into the server rack/IDF? The extra cable will be before the termination point (fiber patch panel) so you shouldn't see it looped around in your rack! Those were fiber patch cables - which should be the proper length.

In addition to a good IP KVM get an IP addressable power strip. When you get a complete lock-up you can just pull the power and reapply.
