the book World War Z (by max brooks as well as The Zombie Survival Guide) is actually a pretty realistic portrayal of what would really happen, basically you are very smart, very lucky, or very f**ked!

It'll teach you through written account how to deal with everything from being surrounded, to the emotional issues (like having to kill zombie grandma), to how to escape from an underwater zombie.
