Well since a terrorist attack is murder and a car accident is well...an accident I think the point they are trying to get across is rather weak. I think we would have something to fear if 43,000 americans were going to be killed as part of an organized plan of Murder. Car accidents are a part of life, murder does not have to happen.
that's the point, car accident's don't have to be a part of life if people would just pay more attention and drive a tad slower. How many times have you witnessed or done yourself: switching over a lane, flooring the gas to pass a car, only to be stopped by a red light and having the car you just pass pull up right behind you?Yet, merely switching over a lane and speeding could have caused an accident. You may not be able to control how others drive, but controlling how you drive yourself can still make a huge difference.
The cartoon makes a point to consider but the threads above show a very scary liberal side to our country. Blaming the country and rewriting history seems to be the only problem solving skills for Digg-nation's majority. Before you digg down, offer your solution for terrorism...
Being a soldier who is currently based in Afghanistan, I think this cartoon has complete lack of perspective on why we are actually here in the first place. I haven't forgotten our brothers and sisters who needlessly lost their lives at the hands of a terrorist attack. To even suggestively compare terrorist attacks to accidental death statistics is blatant disrespect to those who perished on 9/11.
@kdehead: Oh the cartoonist will have plenty of options. He'll draw a cartoon of a "stupidAmerican?" saying "Why do they hate us?" while driving an SUV and eating a muslim baby for breakfast.People like that cartoonist will always find a way to blame the victim.
Japan was ready to surrender? Says who...Chomsky?A "dubious terror attack"? So you think it didn't happen? Or you're one of those who think Sept 11 was in inside job?How about the IDF? THey must have engineered it from Israel, right? So the Muslims killing in the name of Allah in Russia, Holland, England, the US, Thailand, the Phillipines, Israel, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, etc that's all a misunderstanding too, huh? And the trains in Madrid and London? All George BUsh's hype, right?
This is arguable, its whether we consider the too situations to be equivalent in some way. As dead is dead, and the intent doesn't matter, they are similar in that way. The other question is whether the risks are similar. This is largely a judgement call. If you believe terrorists can get a nuclear weapon, than the risks are not similar. I happen to think that terrorists with a nuclear weapon is a recipe for dead terrorists, but that some day it will happen, and no amount of care is going to prevent it.

Though I'm a bit late, I just figured I'd also add a link to this YouTube video clip of the aforementioned press conference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PGmnz5Ow-o (autoplaying video warning)
