desktoplinux.com— Dell wants to know what you want from a Linux desktop. Why? Because, it appears, they're going to be making one.

kubuntu will be more familiar to windows users and is a greatly customizable desktop with a lot of programs made for it. Also, the system settings is in one spot and easy to use. With the great online community, Ubuntu or Kubuntu should be the leading choices but fedora core would also be a good distro.
How the f**k are people forced to get Windows? There are Macs, Linux system builders, ebay, local neighbourhood nerd. People get Windows because they know how to use Windows and, unlike lifeless hacks like you, realize it is *just* an operating system. Linux isn't right for everyone. You may enjoy it, but that doesn't mean my grandparents will.

They are probably teasing again. Dell and H-P are at a PR battle. Don't get your hopes high. The secret OEM contracts pretty much suppress this, if not forbid it altogether. And then there are explicit /threats/ and scare tactics, e.g.Did Microsoft want to 'whack' Dell over its Linux dealings?http://news.com.com/Did+Microsoft+want+to+whack+Dell+over+its+Linux+dealings/2100-1014_3-6153904.htmlDell's secret Linux flinghttp://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/01/09/dell_linux_china/Microsoft 'killed Dell Linux' - Stateshttp://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/03/19/microsoft_killed_dell_linux_states/The day people are not /forced/ to get Windows is the day when it'll all be over, gradually. Microsoft won't give up without a fight, but if only there was regulation or transparency. The contracts are doctored in a mafia-like fashion.
