It does seem rather ironic that we spend so damn much money on ridiculous things like a war that probably could have been avoided for the most part. when we could be spending it on... what i thought was interesting a fraction of that on clean drinking water FOR THE WHOLE WORLD.we really do find the most petty things in America to spend our money on.Good game, president bush, good game...

$145,000,000,000 / 300,000,000 people in the US = $483 per person. Wow, I could almost buy a PS3 20 GB version with that kind of money. Instead, I'm using that money to help save an American soldier by supplying him with the stuff he needs. I'm not a big fan of the way the war is being fought but people need to understand that this country wastes $145billion like it's nothing.

Since the US is constantly ridiculed by the rest of the world for 1) sticking our noses in matters that don't concern us or 2) not doing enough in the world to help out, we should just take that part of the defense budget that's used to support other countries (i.e. NATO, Japan, Korea...) and spend it on research for renewable energy sources and technology. Send $10billion to MIT and $10billion to Stanford, etc. per year. Make this a national priority like going to the moon was. The US needs to and could be the most energy efficient and clean country if we set our minds to it.

Way wrong thread but the fact is, income tax doesn't pay for roads, it doesn't pay for police, it doesn't pay for schools....other taxes, which are based not on your income but are directly apportioned do. Gas tax pays for roads, Property taxes pay for schools, Property taxes pay for Police. (More or less, they also often receive grants).

How would the United States feel with Iran on their northern and southern border much like we are on Iran's western and eastern border in addition to labeling Iran as an "axis of evil" (enemy).
