wikileaks.org — Australia and Germany are the only liberal democracies proposing a mandatory internet censorship regime. All of the schemes operate, or are proposed to operate, through multi-million dollar national networks of censorship machines. The machines spy on the nation as each citizen attempts to read on the internet.

Is that really the world you want to live in? Where you have to find a geek to risk both your lives hacking a system so you can read a book or talk to your mom? You just make it sound like there's nothing to worry about here and no reason to stop it...

And why should it be lesser because it comes from a videogame? Would you preface the quote, as the case were, with "I know it's from a book, but..."?

Concerning free speech and denial of the Holocaust, Germany is a special case, a national recognition that it had committed an immense evil, and that this recognition must never be denied or diluted. Though different legally, it may be comparable in moral dimension to outlawing in the USA discrimination based on race.

Not really true. If they legislate it, then the ISPS *HAVE* to do what they are told. They could, theoretically, all REFUSE en masse but you know that wont happen. So, there really isnt any good news there.Changing the CONSTITUTION is not easy. Changing the law is DEAD easy as Howard proved. All you need is the numbers in both houses. It isnt clear if they have the majority in the upper house or not, on this bill, though.

The Greens are afraid they are going the way of the Dodo to be honest so keeping quiet is better for them.

Yes I already said that but it doesnt get past the point I made - to do what you do now you will pay more because of the censorship then more through a VPN to get around it.

I bet if someone posted a pro-censorship comment, it would quickly get censored by diggers burying it
