news.com.com — In one of those delicious ironies that history occasionally dishes up, quasi-socialist Europe turns out to be leagues ahead of the capitalist United States when it comes to protecting intellectual property on the Internet.

Does Google show ads along the article summaries or what? If not, well, those regional publishers just lost a potentially great way to advertise their articles. Google was providing them a free service, but it's probably hard to explain this to old-school people. This article doesn't make much sense.

A) What does this have to do with Web 2.0?and B) How is YouTube like Napster? The author of this article is cluelessly spreading FUD about something he clearly doesn't understand. Unless someone can explain why this article is relevant, I'd like to digg this down as "Lame."

I think my biggest problem with the article is where he claimed that net piracy is the same as the enforced slavery of millions. And that the American civil war was fought to abolish that crime. Other than that it wasn't very informative.

I thought the article was a nice "splash of cold water" to the hype of Web 2.0. People may just want to shout down these viewpoints and continue to go along their merry 2.0 way, but it doesn't mean these issues don't need to be addressed.

1 - in general the government/laws in europe are more benevlolent than in the US.2 - using draconian IP laws as an example of 'irony' is stupid. what's ironic is that there are pirate parties popping up throughout europe to get rid of that great policy. equating a corporation not getting paid is wrong on so many levels i don't know where to start. It's intellectually equivalent to some bizarre theory a white supremicist would develop to justify slavery. dumbass. this is just so absurd, i can't help but wonder if the RIAA is doing a little psy-ops trying to persuade lefties/europeans that it is just.
