"To the corruptions of Christianity I am indeed opposed; but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself. I am a Christian, in the only sense he wished any one to be; sincerely attached to his doctrines, in preference to all others; ascribing to himself every human excellence; & believing he never claimed any other." Thomas JeffersonYou can't refute that feverhost. Jefferson was a Christian. Maybe more gnostic than orthodox in his beliefs, but he was a Christian no matter how you look at it. He even wrote his own version of the bible by collecting nothing but the sayings and teaching of Christ into one volume. Which is exactly what the Gospel of Thomas from ancient gnostic texts is as well.

@ultimis...and those "Christian" principles are being replaced by human principles. Isn't it funny how people woke up and discovered that they don't need the fear of God in them to keep them from being dicks?

I think of those stories much in the same way as those Marvel Comics for kids stories where all the heroes are portrayed as tykes.

Well willtheway we certainly are not as arrogant and misinformed as you. Those morals you claim to have come from the bible have been around before your particular version existed. The authors decided to write it down for the masses. Take a good look at the old vs new testaments. Notice the improvements, not that it is perfect but there is remarkably less genocide, infanticide, killing. Sounds like they needed to ease up a bit since your morally based bible had been causing a s**t load of wars and death. Damn, there is still a little bit of ill will between Christians and Islam.

Living in the Bible belt, this thought always interests me. Then I remember history, before Texas took over what is being taught. Our founding fathers objected to the Church of England. The state church. It was the basis for division of church and state. What a good idea they had.

I may grow rich by an art I am compelled to follow; I may recover health by medicines I am compelled to take against my own judgment; but I cannot be saved by a worship I disbelieve and abhor.- Thomas Jefferson 1797.

>>Jesus never did anything wrong to anyone, but they still crucified him.Well, he did profess to be the divine son of God. That has never gone over well.
