popularmechanics.com — Turning the Phoenix Mission's confirmation of water ice on Mars into a thought experiment on the search for little green men (or at least some super microbes)a legit sci-fi geek offers an instant analysis on two diverging worlds-scientific research for alien life (losing funding) and open-source fanaticism for alien intelligence (losing credibility

It really isn't news. The ESA orbiter had absolute confirmation of water ice under the surface and at the poles several years ago. Total, absolute confirmation: http://www.esa.int/esaMI/Mars_Express/SEMYKEX5WRD_ ...The excitement you're seeing on Digg is because this time it's a NASA probe and the ice is right there on the ground next to it. For the uneducated, this has a higher cool factor than does definitive evidence recorded from orbit. And now watch me get dugg down by the boneheads who think you can't get direct evidence from orbit.

Irony would be if we find out that we inadvertently found and cooked Mars' first primordial soup.

NASA actually has a picture to celebrate the occasion:http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/264634main_1515 ...It shows the area where the probe which confirmed the existence of water on Mars landed. Here it is in QTVR format:http://www.fotoausflug.de/en-mars-phoenix.html

Interesting point, and I'll say it would change the level of implication, but it still has impact. That still indicates that water exists on two planets right next to each other which has has an impact on statistics. Just that is CAN exist on multiple bodies is interesting to me, especially when we aren't certain the derivative of the water.

DoscoJones - That's what I was referencing regarding the known ice under the surface, I just couldn't remember what the exactly who and when did it...I knew it was a mars orbiter : P I saw it on PBS a long time ago.

While it is sad to see SETI losing funding, this article hinges on a false pretext. It states that the evidence that would prove that some UFO phenomena are alien vehicles is purely anecdotal. That couldn't be further from the truth. In the public sphere there exist medical documents relating to radiation burns received from persons coming in contact with this technology, soil samples and Geiger counter readings from landing sites, as well as a large amount of photographic evidence, and a growing amount of video evidence. Within military and intelligence circles there exist radar readings, listening post recordings, and flight recorder data that support the obvious hypothesis. These are all known to exist.http://www.zestrx.com/product/cialis-professional. ...
