mikecpeck.com — Finally found the Quicktime components needed to play XviD video natively in Quicktime on the new Intel Macs. Installed a couple components on my new MacBook Pro and was able to watch the XviD video in the Universal Version of Quicktime and even in Front Row.

It doesn't play Quicktime and Real movies even though I have the codecs installed.

This is very cool, now I just need to get a MacIntel!

this is stupid. you can play ANY video format on ANY os. all you need is codecs..if someone can't figure out how to play a video on their computer then maybe sell it or give it away to someone who actually knows how to use it.

You are right - VLC for the mac can play pretty much anything without any help. It's just nice to have the quicktime components so, as people have mentioned, you can open all these formats in Front Row or indeed anything that uses quicktime such as Final Cut or DVD Studio

In other news, the sky is up and the ground is down.Seriously, how is this news? I bought a MacBook Pro a month ago and was watching XVids in Universal QuickTime on day one. It's called 'Google'. Lame, and reporting as such.

I'm running a Mactel also and am currently playing xvid movies in Front Row without a problem.I used a codec from http://n.ethz.ch/student/naegelic/download/ and then added the files to iTunes using an app from http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051013124423475&lsrc=osxh that way iTunes more readily accepts non-native video formats that you already have working in Quicktime.I posted all of this on my blog at http://web.mac.com/p_cross to show everyone how much of a mac noob I am.
