washingtonindependent.com — During a talk Wednesday about Iraq at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington policy organization, Petraeus repeatedly made statements that bolstered the foreign-policy proposals of Sen. Barack Obama, McCain?s Democratic rival, or cut against McCain?s own lines.

In the debates and you can verify this as well, Obama stated that high level talks were needed with Iran and also that only McCain was twisting his words to make it look like Obama wanted that to happen at the presidential level.I think CNN did a fact check on this and Obama was proved to be correct. Look it up for yourself and verify.

Zachary - I'm genuinely curious (since this part of your boilerplate response leaves it out) what you see the result of having negotiations with Iran without preconditions to be? Please be specific. I hear this response all the time (and at this point, I'm utterly bored by this line of "debate") and have never figured out exactly what the danger is. It seems that other countries have figured out that Iran and the U.S. are not allies, and meeting with a country in which we have an obvious national security interest would be taken as simply that. Are we worried that if we don't have a precondition that "Israel shall remain sovereign and their borders as is" that President Obama or his Secretary of State might accidentally sign a contract to the contrary like a fool at a used car dealership?

Yeah, bomb the s**t out of Cambodia & start a genocide. Seriously, what kind of fool would ever trust a Republican with anything?

I'm fairly certain he has. When your own party is criticizing you (think George Will), you know it's all over but the shoutin' and cryin'.

@brsmnky007:While there are many possible negative consequences of Obama meeting with hostile nations without preconditions (the most likely of which is them perceiving Obama as weak or a fool), there are no possible positive outcomes. I imagine the conversation going something like this:Obama: "Please quit working towards nuclear weapons? We'll trade with you."Ahmadinejad: "No."Obama: "If you don't quit your nuclear program, we'll just put harsher sanctions on you."Ahmadinejad: "That will just make my people hate you more. Please, do."Ahmadinejad is an intimidating, America-hating man who has threatened Israel and brazenly dances all over the United States at each annual UN meeting. There is nothing to be gained from Obama speaking with this man.
