torrentfreak.com — After spending nearly 3 years in a detention center fighting his extradition from Australia, a leader of notorious warez group 'DrinkorDie' was yesterday arraigned before a U.S. District Court to face charges of conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement and one count of actual criminal copyright infringement.

Copyright infringement (Downloading an MP3, say), and (Not sure of the "correct" word for it, "unauthorized use"?) using some random person's photo for a commercial project, without compensating the photographer, or even asking/letting them though your using it (I.e using a picture of Flickr for a book/DVD cover, which makes the company money) isn't really the same thing, is it..? (More from a moral-point-of-view - both could be seen as copyright-infringement, but some kid's picture being "stolen" by a big company )As for the stealing of "Digg's idea", I agree - it's silly, but again, it's not comparable to piracy..- Ben

Nothing Heroic about 12 feds at your door and at your office. But I agree about open source, if anything good were to come out of this I would hope software like you mentioned will be more available to those who can't afford it now.

I think it's safe to say that the gun only came out after these people squandered their chance to be honest and good.

@class4Ever"Full respect goes to today's true freedom fighters ie. TPB in Sweden, Russia etc. for not bending over for US/lobbyists intellectual rights-tyranny. "Your definition of true freedom fighters is more then a tad disturbing. Civil Rights, Word hunger > Battle of Intellectual Property Issues on the substance scale, for me anyway."10 years for sharing information - not even profiting - I'm speechless - completely out of proportions."Sadly I learned the hard way that the US Gov doesn't limit their definition of "Financial Gain" to currency only. They also considered the fact that we had full access to a never ending supply of anything from movies to games to ps to dc to music as a benefit of being in the group from fe or lof. *shurg*. If he does get 10 years, oh well. He did break the law. He would have been sitting at home reading poetry right now had he just come and faced this bs with the rest of it when it all went down. He's a really nice man, but I damn sure wouldn't feel sorry for him."CLASS for life!"That made me giggle :/ cls 4tl

Would be way less then 6 had he faced the charges when the rest of us did. People aren't bitching about us being charged yet they bitch about the extradition.... wth is that about? all of us were charged for the same things, just some had additional charges, but the basic charge was the same and we all have been found guilty. He broke the same law, why on earth does it fkn matter that he did from there at this point? blah

Must be nice :/ When they did that to me I was afraid to bitch because they claimed the value of the releases we did during the time I was in Exceed 5 mil and I should be grateful meh. I still don't for the life of me understand why they claim I had a leadership role but such is life. I just feel bad for John because he was leaving the group right before all this happened. My lawyer was clueless about this kind of stuff but he was cool. You have no idea how lucky you are :/

Oh, I know how lucky I was. I could have easily been in for years. I was lucky to have a lawyer who understood things when I explained them to him.
