@Iaianrocks Have you ever worked there? If you have that is sad since you can't even spell "Wal-Mart" correctly. You don't know what you're talking about. I worked there for 7 years, and anybody that wanted to be full-time could for the most part. There were exceptions of course, like after Christmas when they don't need as many people working. I blogged about working for them for several years, but mostly from a humor point-of-view because of the stupidity of the associates and customers. That is at www.wallyworldlife.comAs far as the products coming from overseas, that is the result of the third party companies, Wal-Mart is only indirectly responsible. Where do you shop? I bet those places carry items that are mostly manufactured overseas as well.
Exactly last time I checked I though Target and K-Mart both had plenty of items made in China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Indonesia and so on. The employees aren't treated much better than at Wal-Mart, thats most true at K-Mart. To be honest we have these Wal-mart Market Places which are just a grocery store with self checkout and a few cashiers. No I don't like those for two valid reasons. The Meat department is nonexistent (no meat cutter)and the meat isn't really all that fresh (precut, nitrogen packed). Also the employees aren't held to providing spectacular service like the other grocery store here so you feel like your missing part of that true grocery shopping experience. TO be honest service is where everyone trys to beat Wal-mart and normally succeeds. Its just as much about service as it is prices. Ill pay more for the company's ability to pay you more if you give me great service and make me feel less like a number.
ASDA (uk WalMart) seems quite the opposite though. The've been in the top 10 companies to work for. Hardly any food comes from China; for example, all their Pasta products come from Italy.Maybe it's just because UK supermarkets are trying to be healthy and stop any health-food only supermarkets open. Tesco (UKs biggest supermarket) bought the WholeFoods trademark so that WholeFoods cannot setup easily in the UK; many things like this happen. It seems they want to be the one-stop shop for everything and to crush any competition.
I agree. Walmart has actually been using their massive power for good lately, which is shocking. They are apparantly looking into bringing ethanol pumps to every one of their stores with gas pumps. That would be a massive win for everyone, as it would lower prices on ethanol and help the environment at the same time. On top of this they are keeping CD/DVD prices in check by demanding prices stay low. So while they may treat employees worse than the average store, they also do a lot of good. Plus, a lot of American families in poorer areas would go broke if they didn't have Walmart to buy their essentials at... it's a sad state of affairs, but Walmart is not the pure evil empire like they seemed to be headed for a few years ago.
Re "Really sounds like their (SIC) straining to get by."They are making less than 4 cents per dollar of net sales. I would not call that outrageous profits!
i think wal mart has the assets to successfully incorporate RFID into operations. Also, Wal Mart is all about keeping prices low, and although the intial cost will be great, in the end it will save them a lot of money.

Fun fact: If Walmart paid all of their hourly people only about $3 more an hour they'd be broke. Their profit margins are very thin.

I already felt bad shopping at WalMart. Since I'm not going back any more, THAT's over.
