theinquirer.net — The price of Intel Core Duo chips is set to plummet on the 28th of May, and there's faster chips coming along anyroadmap. Those include the 2.33GHz T2700, but this is only the start of better things from Chipzilla later this year.

As many, many have said, this likely won't change the retail price of a MacBook. However, rumour has it that June is when the iBooks are coming, so that may be a reason to wait. Alas, I don't think the iBooks will use the dualcore, and, I imagine, anyone wanting to run XP in virtualization would really appreciate having the dual core."Apple is known for having some of the most costly computers in exisitence"This is really such a well-ingrained urban legend that it just will never die, will it? Really, Apple machines are about the same as any machine of comparable quality. Even *I* didn't believe it until I had to comparison shop for some laptops a year ago.

Fools. The price of components have no effect on the price of Apple computers. You pay a premium for something pretty with a decent amount of engineering. You pay a premium because they're a low-volume company. If they sold as many computers as Dell, their prices still wouldn't fall. To sum up, they're always going to charge you extra because they're Apple, not because their hardware is costing them double what the rest of the industry pays. The day I see a decent, powerful, full-featured Apple for ~$500 is the day I buy one. Don't even mention the Mini, it's a toy computer with a very slow hard drive and zero expandability.

You don't need much to play wow at medium detail. I've got an ATI 200M in my pc laptop and it runs wow at 1280x800 with some stuff on high, most on medium.

I really want to get one, but like K.Rose said in episode 40 of Diggnation just wait till Apple works out some more bugs.

you'lll never buy one cause you hate Macs!the 'premium' you pay for a Mac is the same for any PC that's comparable. Price out a new MacBook and a PC laptop with the same specs and you'll see its a good value, PLUS you get a decent OS and good software.

Is Apple the only one making Computers with these Chips? Why should people wait to buy a Intel Based Mac and not wait to buy other systems with the Core Duo or Core Solo in them? Will this price drop only effect Apple???

I've been looking all over for a definitive answer on the 2.33ghz Yonah, this appears to be it. So I'm holding my breath for a 2.33ghz 17" MacBook Pro come June. Don't need to wait for Merom, the next top end Yonah will be plenty fast for the vast majority of what I'll be doing with it.
