yellowdog is far from being the only distro for powerpc. its great if you like redhat based linux and you don't want the latest software. they also have a speciality in high performance computing and clusters.i switched from yellowdog to ubuntu, and have found that much better as a desktop operating system. it has newer packages, more frequent updates and very good public forums/wiki/bugtracker. also ubuntu has an open development model. (the ubuntu is dropping powerpc is mostly hot air. its just moving from officially supported to community supported).there are also powerpc ports of debian, gentoo, fedora etc
