neogaf.com — I brought this in September last year and and now won't turn on due to the power brick failing. Microsoft covers the actual console for 1 year, but the power brick for only 3 months. Now they want me to pay $80 to send me a new power brick. Is this a wider problem than just me?

Actually this is perfect: Find a friend with a RRoD and swap cords. Gonna have to send it in anyway, right?

Are you freaking serious, you're bitching about a power supply dying? Is this your first modern electronics purchase? Modern day electronics are fickle (I long for the days of the invincible Sony T.V. or stereo). You have three options, either take it to a shop and have them look at it, buy a new one, or dump your 360.

You are right, I should have worded that differently. By saying they didn't have rectifiers and transformers I was (improperly) thinking of only your standard linear power supply and the fact that the XBOX PSU is not of that type.I would say that fan cooling is preferable. Of course you can make just about anything convection cooled, but it needs unrestricted airspace and good engineering. Good engineering and good airflow are not things I often see. I have seen PC's trapped in desks where the internal temp reached 140+. Also people tend to throw the brick somewhere and it gets hidden or covered.Point is that the XBOX brick works ok if it has 100% airflow available. It is not designed with tolerance for anything. Adding a fan might help if it is placed in a less than ideal location.

The power supply is more than 3 lbs.... I'm not talking about the weight, I'm talking about actually being able to bring the whole package over with controllers and everything.
