Well, you have to look way back to when this all started in the 60's in the US and who were on either side of the issue at the time. Of course, you never hear this mentioned b/c it would, for many, cause people to immediately question the legitimacy of Global Warming and Environmentalism generally. After all, most of the ridiculous ideas that came out of the 60's were all shown to be ridiculous and failed miserably...hippy communism, "tune-in-turn-on...", "question everything", "cellular families are bad", and on and on and on.During the 60's, many people were looking for a religion, a cause, something to believe in. Christianity was "square", traditional, and "your daddy's religion", so, of course, this just wasn't an option for the hippies. Yes, it was and they were, and still are, exactly that shallow. After all, literally every other religion was acceptable to the hippies...all the eastern religions, Islam, TM, hindi, etc.. For those whom a deity or an organized or even previously-recognized religion just wouldn't do, Environmentalism offered everything to these people...a cause, a quasi-religion, faith, something to bring people together, etc..For many, Environmentalism is their religion. They would do anything for it. As witnessed, they will even lie to keep it going and relevant. So, to answer your question, this split between conservatives and liberals regarding Global Warming goes back to the 60's when Global Warming and Earth Day and all of the other nonsense was invented. Conservatives just never bought into it and tended to see it for what it was. Now, along your line of questioning...Why are all PETA lunatics liberals? Just sayin' :)
Rather than rework machinery to fit this next political agenda masquerading as protection, businesses will move even more manufacturing to the lax laws of China. The US will fall further into recession, and the lawmakers will wring their hands and make another useless jobs bill that will only cause further debt.
Mat: I appreciate your rational and respectful response.I can tell you, from a business perspective, no one is going to lower their porofits to facilitate this. It will be passed on to the consumer by either:price increaseswage reductionsor reduction in head-count (lay offs)Altruism is a great thing when you are being altruistic with your own money. when someone else is being generous with money that is not theirs, it is theft, no matter the motive. The end does not justify the means.as it stands, the climate change group has a lot of good theories, no good models that are definite and no real plan for resolution. There are now a bunch of apparent vultures who have glommed on to this and are perceived as using this as an opportunity to siphon money from the tax trough, grab control of industries through regulation, and pass laws based on treaties signed that allow them to funnel more foreign aid to unappreciative foreign governments. The silent majority of Americans have had enough and aren't playing along. sorry to all of the throw-backs to the counter-culture era who go from place to place looking for crusades to back, but I'm not playing anymore and so it is with a majority of Americans.

It's an intelligence test. If people get the sarcasm, cool. If not, I have another sort of answer.

Does the "carbon"ation in my soda do bad for the environment? Because honestly, I'll walk to work but I'd like to keep drinking my coke!
