latimesblogs.latimes.com — Vuze, which sells high-def videos through torrents, has spent much of the past 2 years trying to persuade Hollywood that its users are customers, not thieves. So far, however, the major studios have entrusted little to Vuze beyond movie trailers. Now, Vuze has a study to prove it.

They really don't "need to accept it" and they won't.

I'm in the same boat--my living room looks like a blockbuster store. If I download something and like it, I then buy it on DVD. There are still movies I'll go see on the really big screen no matter what. Hollywood needs to realize that the best fans will do all this--in fact, being able to download keeps our obsessions fresh!

I go to see movies just about every weekend and I own a THX home theater. Why go to the movies with a home theater like this? Star Trek just would not have been the same on my home theater. I don't use bit torrent for movies or music. I use Netflix for movies and the radio in iTunes or the iTunes store for music. Why? In 2000, I bought a top of the line DVD player when they came out. Read very expensive. Within 18 months the movie studios changed the format specs, then I could only play the 35 dvds I had already bought but no new releases. Same thing is happening with the Blueray updates. Luckily I bought a PS3 this time so I'm ok. But, this has taught me to never buy movie media again. My children won't either (each child has their own Netflix Account). It is not worth it. I will just rent. Netflix makes renting so easy and it averages less than $1 per movie rental. Bit torrent has it uses and is a good way to get Linux making it cheap enough to get each new release. Triple Boot Anyone. Mig

I see AT LEAST one movie in theaters a week. I never torrent a movie that I would bother to rent or buy, and I am sick to death of worrying whether my ISP will try to police my internet use, just because the companies that I regularly give money to are worried that the crappy film I downloaded to watch at the gym on my ipod is costing them money.

I go to the movies on a regular basis, buy about 50 DVD/Blurays each year, pay for all the music I listen to. I still download some stuff like TV shows and movies I'm not too sure I wanna spend 10€ to watch... If the movie is good then I buy the DVD or bluray disc...I currently own about 1500 cds, 400 DVDs and a few dozen BRs... I don't really believe I f**k with anybody's business...

Lets look at it this way. I own lots of 200-330 VHS tapes with movies I have bought. Then came DVD's and I bought another 100 or so, forget the 100's of CD's I own as well. The big companies have made a bucket load from me and I imagine many others as well. I now own through itunes a lot more music and movies that I have rented or purchased. I download movies and if I like them I purchase them. If they are rubbish why should I buy them. I have spent far in excess what the big companies say I would have cost them in downloading illegally. A good suggestion for them would be to get the electronic versions of the TV shows and movies up much earlier and a lot of people wouldn't bother downloading the latest releases as cams or any other crappy reproduction.
