When are they going to get hip to these issues and push into COMPLETE VOTING SYSTEM REFORM.Between the Oil, The Mortgage Industry, and the Voting Scandals, I am just sick of all the high level official hand down crap Americans are handed each year.Which explains why my blog is so aggressive against our elected officals.... www.weelectedidiots.comWe need to change the entire system, clearly these people and their actions dont represent the heart of America

Say it ten thousand times and you'd still be wrong another 9,000 times. Many states are looking to ditch their electronic voting machines and return to the paper ballot and optical scanners. My state of Virginia just announced that they will begin replacing electronic machines within the next two years.I quote "The trend reflects a national movement away from electronic voting machines"<a class="user" href="http://freeinternetpress.com/story.php?sid=18887">http://freeinternetpress.com/story.php?sid=18887</a>

Hold on there. Electronic voting isn't a horrible idea. These issues arose for several reasons. First, they source code is private. I don't care what company you are. If you're selling products as important as these you had better be prepared to open it up. Second there wasn't any regulation or standards. Things could be implemented in any fashion with no consistency. Lastly security. You do NOT use an OS like MS Windows for something this important. You do not use real computers of any kind. You setup a master server running a BSD flavor (my opinion) and each of the voting machines are nothing more than dumb terminals using an encrypted connection. Each dumb terminal should be made to create a paper trail. One dumped into a lock box and another for the voters personal records or verification. Lastly all transactions to and from the main server should be logged and create a paper trail with SHA2 or better hashing to insure that everything is status quo.Don't knock technology for some lobbyists greed. If they had done things right and even consulted true experts in secure transmission and data they wouldn't be where they are. What freaks me out is that Diebold also makes ATM machines! If their voting machines are this crappy one would have to worry about the ATMs.
