msnbc.msn.com — Four years into the war with Iraq, America has sacrificed more than 3,200 troops. But in letters and journals and e-mails, the war dead live on, their words -- urgent, honest, unself-conscious -- testament to the realities of combat. What do they have to say to us?

That is truly powerful stuff, I will definitely have to pick up a copy of Newsweek. IMO it is crucial for everyone to read and hear the experiences of our troops serving abroad. As the article mention, since most of us don't have to sacrifice a thing for what is being done for us, the very least that can be done is to understand and appreciate the sacrifice. Similar to the Newsweek accounts, there is a great (I have only seen previews, but it looks great) PBS documentary that airs on April 16th called "Operation Homecoming: Wring the Wartime Experience," that gives firsthand accounts using poetry, journals, letters, etc. from troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Here is a clip from the film that I would recommend checking out, http://youtube.com/watch?v=wZw_SVzMHTAThanks for posting this article.

it's a good thing our president is basically illiterate, otherwise this kind of stuff might just get to a fella. seriously, i can't see how our commander in chief can watch the news or read a magazine and still commit to this atrocity. The best i can figure is that he is impenetrable to the news and ignores the repercussions of his actions and all the families and lives he has torn apart.
