wired.com — Recently I logged into World of Warcraft and I wound up questing alongside a mage and two dwarf warriors. I was the lowest-level newbie in the group, and the mage was the de-facto leader. He coached me on the details of each new quest, took the point position in dangerous fights and suggested tactics. He seemed like your classic virtual-world group

This is why I never used voice chat when I used to play WoW. There were times when I'd have to listen in on Ventrilo, like when the guild was trying to learn a new boss in Naxxramas, but other than that I tended to avoid it. It murders the immersion of the game.

"Really? REALLY? Typing is old school and complicated?"Typing anything of substance is really hard if you don't know how to touch type. Especially if you're playing time-sensitive game. It's impossible to type out directions to your party members while you're being swarmed by baddies, if you have to hunt-and-peck for the right keys. You've gotta realize that a lot of people are new to computers, the internet, and typing. Not everyone's been posting on BBSes and newsgroups, and typing out emails and code for the last decade like you and I have.

The only online game that I use voice chat with is Socom 2, if you don't have a mic, then you're in the dark.

Voice chat can kill the mood in any game when you have some hyperactive teenager screaming and crying every time something happens.Silence is golden, especial where voice chat and on-line gaming is concerned.@mehworldI'm 41 and play, my friend is 53 and plays and my next door neighbour is 66 and plays. There is no age limit.
