kotaku.com — Who wants Viva Pinata on the DS? Microsoft do. Announced at Comic Con yesterday, Viva Pinata DS will see the original game concept (ie not the party game) ported over to the DS, with the main changes a new top-down perspective and what I'd guess is an improved control scheme.

Why ? Is there that much a rivalry between Nintendo and Microsoft ? If it were Sega and Nintendo (the hell has already froze because of that) or Nintendo and Sony or even Microsoft and Sony...

Nintendo and Microsoft alliance seems like a great idea, they both are competing in nearly separate arenas for their home consoles. Now if it were Sony and Microsoft, THEN it would be the apocalypse.

Guess who's downloading it?Me. R4 + 2GB MicroSD = DS goodness.Oh c'mon -- it's Microsoft! If you pirate an MS game for a Nintendo platform, does that make you good or evil?

What would completely amaze me is if Viva Pinata on the Xbox 360 and Viva Pinata DS can communicate, e.g. transfer pinatas, saved gardens, etc. between the two consoles. THEN, hell would be frozen over.

No surprise. "PC" (aka Windows) is a Microsoft platform. Many Nintendo games find themselves between all of Nintendo's platforms. That said, it's no surprise given that the 360 seemed to be a bad match for Viva Pinata's target audience. Which is too bad, since the game wound up awesome and actually uses Live along with Achievements.Let's just hope it's not Vista-exclusive.

it's interesting, cuz nintendo, while not exactly a graphics powerhouse, has the most innovative controls for their newest home console and handheld. both the wii and DS actually seem like they have far more intuitive input devices for FPS games than tradition console controllers. yet they also seem to be the last brand associated with FPS gaming.i've always wanted to try playing a good FPS using the wii, but haven't had the chance to. it definitely seems like it would be funner than trying to use an analog stick to aim though.

definitely makes sense. but i don't think it's just that. i'm sure they're making money on the DS game as well. and the game probably isn't helping to sell the DS in any significant way. even if it were, MS isn't competing in the handheld market.heck, if the game does well and people want it on the Wii, it would be in MS's interest to port it to the Wii as well. Ninteno and Microsoft just aren't each other's main competitors, as others have already mentioned. MS's game studios are separate entities from their Xbox division. they're going to port their games to whatever platform will sell the most games as long as it doesn't hurt MS's interests (like porting Xbox exclusives like Halo to PS3).

"yet they also seem to be the last brand associated with FPS gaming."That's because hardcore gamers want hardcore graphics, not super colorful happy Mario-style graphics which Nintendo's consoles seem specifically designed to handle.
