computerworld.com— A bug in Windows Vista's built-in antipiracy technology is telling some users that they need to reactivate the operating system after they install new device drivers or run newly installed software.

I'll reactivate before I take the hassle of switching to linux. Seriously, big deal, you may think Macs never have bugs. This place is overrun by such MS bashing fanboys it makes the place not even look credible. Everything is bash MS praise apple. Apple has the advantage that when you change your mobo for one from newegg for an upgra...Oh, right, you have to get mac specific parts. No problems here on Vista. For all of you Mac users who posted here, I could care less about when you switched to Mac.Nuff said
What a waste time and effort for everyone...I can't believe you goys take this s**t form MS.Anyone would think that Vista was something really great and worth having, but all it is is a mess.Switch to a Mac and remove the hubris of Microsoft from your lives. It's just too short not to.
"There's no indication that such a license agreement (the EULA) is even legal in the first place. When you buy a copy of a copyrighted work, you actually *own* that copy. What you don't own are the rights to make more copies *and* redistribute those. That's what a license is used for."Thank you sooooo much for pointing this out! People here seem to think that MS's EULA is absolute law but it is NOT. It may be completely and totally invalid from a legal standpoint where you live. Besides that, a good lawyer anywhere could make a case that any measure taken by MS to prevent you from using a copy of Vista you own is destruction of private property -- your property, which is what your legally purchased copy of Vista is.The above fully applies to other software that uses product activation (Photoshop, Xandros OS, etc.). Furthermore, if you can prove that you own a copy of the software and they promised updates which they've chosen to deny for *whatever* reason they've committed breach of contract (Windows, Mepis,etc.).
typical microsoft issue... after 3 frustrating times you will have to call microsoft and speak to someone who can't speak english very well and go through putting in new numbers that won't do you any good if you should have to activate again due to hard drive failure....
For god's sake, just get a Mac already. The beauty and power of OS X, and the ability to boot into Windows to play The Sims 2 or whatever it is you guys do in Windows.
That's pretty sweet how UAC learns stuff. I know you said it takes about 2 weeks until they stop popping up frequently, but how long would it take to stop popping up on, for instance, accessing parts of the control panel. Is it after 3 or 4 repititions of allowing a certain action? Is it after a certain amount of days?
that's funny. if you use Vista but don't trust M$ enough to use their pathetic System Update service, they sell you the OS with such a bug in it to FORCE you to use the silly System Update service in order to fix it. Why can't they document the exact technical details cause of the bug so that we can fix it ourself? That way we can be sure that our computer is just as safe as our heads with our tinfoil caps on.
Imagine this situation with any other consumer product... for example a car:- Operator here, how can I help you?-- Aaaaa, ehm my car can't start ma'am... all I did was a simple oil change on my own..- No problem sir... give me just 5 minutes ... I'll generate a new authorization code for you vehicle!.....5 minutes later....- Hello Sir, I got your new security code ready.. here it is. ... ... ... ....-- Yep, it works now!!! Thank you so much for your help!- You are welcome sir... and sir..-- Yes?- Make sure that you don't modify that vehicle you have purchased from us in absolutely any way... or your engine won't start again.-- Eh? Ok... I guess those are the rules.. thanks again...(Thank God that Microsoft is not in a car business...)
