gizmodo.com — The Canadian Microsoft retail pricing page had the various versions of Microsoft Vista listed along with their SKUs. It immediately got taken down, but not before they were recorded for the world to see. Here is the big 'ole list. I busted out the abacus and converted all of the prices to USD. I'm such a nice guy.

From the Wine Application DB: "What does not work: HL2:DM and High-level shaders. (Shaders make the skybox reflect the screen, not sky, and water has no waves and looks like a mirror; HL2:DM simply crashes when joining any server)"I can't stand to have ANYTHING not work in a game I paid good money for. In theory, Linux is the best OS I have ever used, but in practice, I am tethered to Windows because Wine is never going to emulate it with 100% accuracy.

Also, you say that "When you consider that XP was a far greater improvement over 98 than Vista will probably be over XP, and Vista's insane hardware usage, you have a lot of gamers who are probably going to be *very* reluctant to upgrade." However, Microsoft says that DX10 will be able to render up to eight times faster than DX9. This is a very big incentive to upgrade. Also, here are some new features of DX10 (from Wikipedia):" * Fixed pipeline is being done away with in favor of a fully programmable pipeline (often referred to as a unified pipeline architecture), which can be programmed to emulate the same. * Paging of graphics memory, to allow data to be loaded to Video RAM when needed and move it out when not needed. This enables usage of the system memory to hold graphics data, such as textures, thereby allowing use of more and higher resolution textures in games. * There is no limit on the number of objects which can be rendered, provided enough resources are available. * Virtualization of the graphics hardware, to allow multiple threads/processes to use it, in turns. * New state object to enable the GPU to change states efficiently. * Shader Model 4.0, enhances the programmability of the graphics pipeline. It adds instructions for integer and bitwise calculations. * Geometry shaders, which work on indivdual triangles which form a mesh. * Texture arrays enable swapping of textures in GPU without CPU intervention. * Resource View enables pre-caching of resources, thereby reducing latency. * Predicated Rendering allows drawing calls to be ignored based on some other conditions. This enables rapid occlusion culling, which prevents objects from being rendered if it is not visible or too far to be visible."

"...should of already bought a new one and turned the old one into some kind of Linux distro."Or better yet, upgrade now to a new machine with all the whistles and bells of the latest in Windows technology, and you'll be secure that you'll at least have all your computer problems out of the way for another five years. And then you can give your old machine away to a Linux user, who'll be thrilled to give it a new home. Every time you do this, a penguin gets it's wings!*dodging thumb-downs* Ooooh, I KID! I KID the Windows users!

"Too many bloody versions!"At those ridiculous prices, I think most of us will have no choice but to opt for the Pirate Edition.

@craz1lolwell i guess there will be hardware that you buy that be vista only but your 500 $$ is a F**k load of money on a OS that use over 5 GB of drive space n 512 mb of ram .. you can get a linux for free and i bet you its more stable than vista .. too bad there are not a lot of games out for linux :/

Ah of course, digg me down because I actually want to buy Vista, thats the digg spirit. I would say the digg community lost it's touch.. but quite frankly it never had any.

Micosoft is really smoking some wacky weed if they think people have that kind of or pay that kind of money for an OS. Microsoft will find they won't be moving to many copies off the shelves with that price and the eye-candy junk they put into Vista. And way to many flavors of Vista, if Microsoft wassmart they would have made ONE version of Vista and charge $100.00 for it.They would have appeased the Windows power, home, and corporate users in price.
