joystiq.com— Joystiq reports that the virtual console games might get upgrades. This leaves the possibility for our old favorites to have online play. Awesome!

You would do at least most of it at the emulator level, not the ROM code level. People have commented that online multiplayer support is already in PC emulators... add matchmaking and networking to the VC frontend, then catch network events there and send controller info to the emulator as the second player. Same for the other end, and if you keep the games in sync (input happens on the same frames), it's really not different from having someone sit next to you and play with a classic controller. (Of course, there's the experience of real human interaction you lose out on, but why would that matter?)Graphics are more of a stretch... apart from basic filtering, you could catch writes involving certain known tile locations (e.g. the Link sprite is at a certain location in the rom) and replace it with a high-res version.
OMG, ever heard of NESticle with on-line support? NOW, i think Nintendo has enough resources to make their own emulator eventually.... THEY can however port/make any software too due whatever they want via updates.

I guess that's kinda cool but honestly I'm happy with the games in their original form. Just give me Earthbound for #(@*'s sake you bastards.

So wait, One article says they will, yet another says they wont. Joystiq should really make up their minds on what rumor to start.<a class="user" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/13/nintendo-virtual-console-games-have-not-been-changed/">http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/13/nintendo-virtual-console-games-have-not-been-changed/</a>

Joystiq sucks ass and has for a good while now. I say, "The Wii might come with a PS3!" Go report on that lame rumor, you tools.

neokyotodragon -this sort of gives you an idea of what they might mean by 'upgraded graphics'<a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_All-Stars#Super_Mario_Bros._and_Super_Mario_Bros.:_The_Lost_Levels">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_All-Stars#Super_Mario_Bros._and_Super_Mario_Bros.:_The_Lost_Levels</a><a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:SuperMarioBrosNESTitle.png">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:SuperMarioBrosNESTitle.png</a><a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:SuperMarioBrosSNESTitle.png">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:SuperMarioBrosSNESTitle.png</a>I personally would be quite happy with a graphical update like that, but I wasn't around when the NES and SNES were so there isn't really any nostalgia value for me that is lost with a graphical update. As long as they don't use horrible 3d pre-rendered sprites (those can easily look awful in my opinion)

whoops, something went wrong with that first link there...this one should work -<a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_All-Stars">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_All-Stars</a>(look under the 'gameplay' section at the comparison screenshots)Sure, I know you could probably work out what page I intended my link to go to but isn't it easier this way? :)

you're dugg down because you never heard of emulation, and therefore appear off your rocker when you make comments such as that.
