Well... My only use for windows is Itunes and Sketchup... It would be a pain not to be able to do anything else while downloading podcasts... The solution is virtualization... With the added benefit that you can journalize your virtual filesystem... Suspect a virus or trojan, you can go back to a good known state...

You might want to check what the performance is going to be like, too. You aren't going to play Crysis on this thing. Or Oblivion. Or Fallout 3. I wouldn't recommend playing anything from after 2005 if you're using modern hardware.

Last update: Tip for anyone else trying, be sure to reinstall the guest additions. There's a new option, off by default, to install direct3d drivers. Sadly, didn't seem to do much for me other than make my screen resolution change when I open the directx diagnostics program. direct3d still shows as not being available while directdraw is showing as enabled. Even tried turning off 3d acceleration in the virtualbox gui, starting the guest up. Turing it off again, and then re-enabling the 3d option. No luck.

Actually it does work, you just have to install the utilities like the thing keeps telling you to.I'm using it with ubuntu compis. The "guest additions" adds a custom video driver that can do the opengl stuff.

Windows XP actually runs better under Virtualbox inside of the Ubuntu 9.04 than it does natively/facepalmWhy do linux geeks always overstate things like this.
