Agreed, Peterson is amazing, but a good offensive line helps. Emmit Smith owes everything to that unbelievable O line they had in Dallas. I mean you could have driven a car through many of holes he got in his career.
Smith was a different kind of back. Easy to tackle but if he got free no one was gonna catch him. His speed was amazing. But yes, his problem was that he was always injured. I think '98 was the only year he wasn't injured. What an amazing season that was for the Vikes, to go 15-1 and miss the Superbowl on the first and only field goal Gary Anderson missed all season. Looks like the Patriots are on their way to breaking the Vikes' most points in a season record.
Like I said: the Vikes have had some GOOD runners. They haven't had a DOMINATE one that could control a game like Earl Cambell, Tony Dorsett, Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith.Robert Smith was a good back and could have made anyones team. He was fast but he did not run with the kind of power that AP showed against the Chargers. Too bad he cut his career short by retiring early. Foreman was similar- a speedback. He played past his prime. His last few years he was Fran Tarkington's outlet reciever which wasn't exactly a bad thing.I'm not a big Vikings fan but I've always respected the organization. I am a fan of Bud Grant- one of the NFL's legendary coaches.
I just love being right. Even though a tie for 3rd isn't bad for the rookie of the year. But since he's sharing 3rd with *everyone else in the league*, I guess it's not that great either.
