@tech70aI have a gas Jetta as well, same engine as you. It's good, but the deisel is a whole lot better. the TDI gets something like 60MPG and s usually still running great by the time the car rusts out.
I rented one of these over in London in April - the car definatley turned heads. I was shocked when the rental agent said it was a diesel Honda Civic.It definatley had some get up and go - but was easy to stall, but starting, and re-starting wasn't an issue.We got 43 MPG (and at $7 a gallon over there - you want as much MPG as you can get!) - But where are our tiny cars over here in the US, and better diesel alternatives!?!?

Some hatchbacks sell well in the US. I have a Mazda 3 and I see plenty of them on the road. You just have to make them stylish.
