apple.com— Apple introduced the 2nd generation of the iPod nano this morning, and along with it, they created a pretty cool ad to go with it.

What I love about apple ads is the fact that the selling features are always things that never come with the product (dancing people + magic glowing light). Perfect example of selling to people who have no idea what they want, but DO have more money than sense, and are desperate to spend said cash to feel fulfilled (kind of like Swiffer purchasers, for those in the know).
Hey isn't that the base line from the Beastie Boys' Jimmy James? I mean I am sure the Boys or the Dust Brothers just vicked it from somewhere themselves. But I just thought I would point it out.In all honesty I think the ad is pretty lacking. Nice looking, but so is a drunk guy with a sparkler and a long exposure.
Technologies that are most successful, at least in this era, are those that a consumer can personalize and have a sense of ownership in. Apple has made the ipod are a successful brand in part because they emphasize this personalization in their advertising. Ipods don't come with dancing people; the point is that you, the consumer, can put whatever you like on it and dance however you like. Say what you will about the merits of the hardware, but for advertising, branding and marketing, they've done a very good job.
i agreei also find it annoying how people comment on how windows vista is so cool... the only difference is the looks, the space and hardware requierments (up up up!) and the ability to not have it crash all the time and be a general pain in everyone's ass... oh wait... just the first 2.

I can't help but think about the new Sony Bravia commercial coming uphttp://www.bravia-advert.com/ and the Sisomo book by Kevin Roberts http://www.amazon.com/Sisomo-Future-Screen-Kevin-Roberts/dp/1576872688when I see this ad from Apple."The thing that hath been, it is that which shall beAnd that which is done is that which shall be doneAnd there is no new thing under the sun."
