plantsinmotion.bio.indiana.edu — I first saw this plant in Colombia several years ago, and have never seen it since, except today in this video. I figured I'd post it because there are not very many plants this cool. If you ever have a chance to find the Mimosa you'll find it's a fun plant watch fake it's own death when you touch it. Can someone send me a us specimen?

A week after the initial post and link to the site that sells the plant, they are out of stock. I wrote the company to see what kind of an impact this Digg story had on them, but just from the Temporarily Out of Stock, I guess they're doing pretty well right now.

Update: The seeds have sprouted and are already working! The seedlings are about 2" tall and have about 2 leaves each. If I tough them, they do indeed fall over and play dead. It takes several minutes for them to prop themselves back up again. Thanks again for the seeds, man! You rock!

Actually I saw a video of this plant in it's natural environment. When it rains, the rain storm is very heavy, and can be quite damaging to trees and plants. When this little plant is hit by the first rain drops, he folds up.The strong winds and heavy rain pours down on other plants, but this little plant is slim and protected. When the storm passes and the sun comes out, the leaves slowly open back up.Kinda smart, for a plant!
