no - apple used FB-DIMMS for this exact reason - FB dimms have a serial architecture as opposed to DDR2's standard Parallel architecture. This means less wires to connect them all up, and better performance - so they can easily go on a daughterboard without any latency issues.
@ einstiendesign: "Why are workstations any different?"They aren't, but lots of lonely boys have the bulk of thier egos wrapped up in how much they know about computers.Kind of sad.
Funny...pretty much everyone I know that uses a Mac hates Microsoft because Windows crashes and OS X doesn't. I work on both OS's and I despise Microsoft. So don't flame on people just because you don't think they have a good reason for believing what they believe. Especially in this case - where the OS X users are making the better choice.
@samgerdthmm...thats the first i've ever heard of someone having XP crash on them...and I work in the IT dept. for a major company and we have thousands of employees running on XP here. are you using your PC for heavy duty tasks? if not, you might have spyware, adware, and/or malware. all of which target PC's since they are what the majority of the world's population uses.
Wow. Digg is turning into slashdot. I am an apple owner, and poweruser. I have two mac machines which I use intensively in scoring for film. Issues are firewire bandwidth (FW800 drive with 500GB+ of samples, along with FW audio interface, and FW video monitor), hard drive speed, and latency for audio work. We want to see how audio latency is with this machine before jumping in. Latency matters in audio work. There have been reported audio latency issues with this new type of ram. These are reasons my studio is holding back from getting a mac pro at this point. These are valid reasons. I am a mac user, and mac owner.
It's a case with drive enclosures on rails and memory on slots. That's been around in PC cases (3rd party especially) as long as I remember - why is it when Apple comes out with something that's not new, it's seen as the greatest invention of all time. People ask "Why didn't anyone come out with this before" when in reality most of the times they have!!By the time you read this comment, I'll probably be at -10 diggs...that's my guess. Mod away.
"By the time you read this comment, I'll probably be at -10 diggs...that's my guess. Mod away."Obviously, since racking up negative diggs on Apple stories appears to be your goal these days (you aim high in your life's pursuits, don't you). It's amazing how easy it is to get modded down when that's what you shoot for.

They already have. Their graphic cards are outdated.I will say the design inside is absolutely beautiful. I wish more computers were like this.

mikenmat: Good post, but is it actually SATA2 or is it 3GBPS SATA? I saw 3G SATA in the Apple specs, so I assumed it wasn't fully SATA2 compliant.

if you don't why did you bother to comment on a story about the new mac pro?
