"More people in the general population care about Smith than Ford."Sad but true... I think it's also safe to say: More people in the general population KNOW ABOUT Smith than Ford.
"when all the major cable news networks switched over to nonstop live coverage this afternoon when word arrived that Anna Nicole Smith had died."Just out of interest, what do they cover on rolling news about someone dying? I just can't see what they fill the time with. She died alone, in a hotel room, no drama, no results of the postmortem, nothing. She died, and that's the story. I can understand rolling news when someone of great importance dies (let's say a US president, or Diana, or royalty etc.), but not an average celeb.
Listen carefully - it has always been like this. Always. When Monroe died we obsessed about it for forty years! This is not new, there were no good ol days when everyone cared about important things and we all did our part. When the revolution started the majority of Americans weren't arguing over the finer points of "Common Sense" they were trying to figure out how to nail the neighbors wife without getting caught. Or at least buying hand drawn back alley porn. Most people would rather not worry about wars and bombs - boobies are nicer. It has always been that way. I hate that "how did we fall so far" bulls**t.

http://www.gogomag.com/talkingheads/foxnews_f.htmI may be giving away my pervertedness with this statement but..I'd bang a few of the Fox News anchorwomen.. As long as I can spank'em for their crimes on TV..

While I love NPR; I do feel compelled to point out that you didn't actually address his issue. Just an observation.

Christ the American media is terrible. No wonder people don't know what the hell to think.
