mashable.com — In a rather interesting turn of events, Viacom has been called out for copyright infringement. That?s right. The same company that?s suing YouTube for a whopping $1 billion has done some dirty business of its own.

This has always been my problem with the immediate squashing of short-duration media. Quite often, I use low-to-mid range quality, short clips of reruns to actually bring new people to the show thereby creating a larger fan base. There has to be some kind of reasonable, legal "fair-use" middle-ground otherwise everyone will just turn to the underground (and get the whole damn show for free anyway).

You put up a small clip on YouTube of a Viacom show... see how long before their lawyers are knocking on your door.
