ecogeek.org — Vertical turbines have a few one-ups on the traditional three-blade turbines for urban areas like where I live. They’re quieter, blend in with a rooftop more seamlessly, take up less space, can produce 50% more electricity per year, can produce energy at lower wind speeds, and are safer for wildlife such as birds and bats.

But that would look way too stupid on top of my electric car.

Two words: Wind ResistanceIf you make a traditional farm-style windmill, high winds will simply blow it over/destroy it as it acts like a solid surface. They simply don't scale up to the size required for practical electrical generation

"Oh, great. Another armchair engineer/physicist who doesn't understand the whole scope of solar."Well obviously its not that simple, but what is the point in researching wind turbines that the efficiency is limited to 60% and who wants thousands of 200m high towers every where anyway.

Wind is produced by solar energy.

"How is Death/TWh any different than Death/TWyr?"A factor of about 8,765.

Yes, the numbers include people hit by trains and drowned by dam collapses. And wind is still worse. You're not getting this, are you?Wind produces VERY SMALL amounts of energy. Tiny amounts. If you were to scale wind power up to the same level as other things, you would be building bazillions of turbines, and if people have accidents with those turbines at the same rate as they do today, the deaths caused by wind power will be much higher than other sources.

Yeah, it says they suck. But even in the alternative energy field, you see resistance to technology that requires change from the status quo or stuff that isn't a big moneymaker for sales & marketing being labeled ineffective. Yes, it happens in the green corporate/small business world too!!! In fact, it is much more common in the small business world, as change represents cost. Go there, see the response to your link, Ghengis1?VAWT that works and is claimed 70% efficient. Installed & working in NY state.www.etllc.org
