gigaom.com — Under competitive pressure from local cable competitors like Cablevision, Verizon is fighting speed with speed. The company just announced that it is now offering connection speeds of up to 50 Mbps (megabits per second) downstream and 5 Mbps upstream over its FiOS network.

well actually, *sometimes* regulation is good. for example, paypal stealing or freezing people's money. see paypalwarning.com for examples. but as for verizon, it's great that it isn't regulated. they aren't like yahoo or at&t that spied on users for the govt. at&t even installed sniffers throughout their network for the govt.!

"Pssst.. hey Verizon, guys at HK Broadband are selling these kind of speeds for like $20 bucks a month. Come on, how about cutting us all a deal here?"Priceless.

What tech support? Its all automated computer crap that tells you to reboot your modem if somethings wrong. What if their stuff is down? Oh wait, we're not supposed to be that smart!

louisd11, wtf are you talking about?stop with the BS. ive been with cablevision for 6 years now and theyre amazing. why is it that theyve been ranked so highly and received so much acclaim as a great cable service provider? its because they provide great service. in fact, as the article states, theyre pushing verizon to better their service. cablevision was first to announce a 50/50 service months ago, and verizon was the one behind. so dont get me wrong, i'm sure verizon is a great service, but i will likely never switch mainly because cablevision always betters their service when new competition arrives(FIOS). as for time warner, i use that up at school and its horrible. i pay 15 dollars more than i do for optimum online yet the i get half the bandwidth.

FIOS is $34.95 a month for 15 Mb/s down 5 Mb/s up. Not too shabby there, that's only 5 bucks more that 3 Mb/s dsl.
