blogs.miaminewtimes.com — One person is murdered every two hours in Venezuela. Chavez blames the high crime rates on wealth inequality created under former leaders, but that doesn't explain why the murder rate has exploded during his decade-plus in power.

Hank: central american aztecs etc(all of mesoamerica) practiced ritual sacrifice and I'm sure that you have NO idea about their murder rates, unless of course you've managed to get your hands on the records they kept... your flawed logic has failed you."in 1487, the Aztecs reported that they sacrificed 84,400 prisoners over the course of four days"<a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztec#Human_sacrifice" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztec#Human_sacrifice</a>Why don't you wrap your head around the fact that revisionist history often reinterprets events in a way that favors current thought. In the current era, it's fashionable to represent western countries as destroying something that was in some immeasurable way "better". No one likes immeasurable ways, so revisionists like to claim that the people we conquered didn't suffer from the same failings of society as we do.

Wait, what? Greece is in trouble because of American subprime mortgages? On what planet? Greece has been on the verge of bankruptcy for years - they used credit swaps to hide their true fiscal situation so they could join the EU. Greece is broke because half the country has a cushy government job, and they've just about run out all the productive people. Blaming it on the recession is just a dodge.

"he is taking away basic freedoms, such as freedom of the press and freedom of speech"Again, this is bulls**t based on US media hysteria. And all this hysteria is based on *ONE* incident, in which the government of Chavez (not the man himself) did not renew the radio broadcasting license of a certain station that was broadcasting calls 24/7 for the violent overthrow of Chavez and of democracy in Venezuala. That's it. The United States has done far worse in destroying freedom of speech based on much less serious threats (see COINTELPRO).

"He's just a leader who abolished free speech and press that is critical of his government, taken away property rights, called the opposition in his own country as enemies of the states."More bulls**t, none of this happened. See the above comment on the "abolished free speech." People in Venezuela still have property rights exactly as they did before Chavez was elected. To even claim this shows you must be reading some hysterical maniac's blog or something.

The magnitude of the crime increases and decreases were much much less than Chavez. The differences are so great that it is an apples to oranges comparison.

That they are buried means that people clearly disagree with them. Since you consider Digg to be a Liberal haven, doesn't that very thing disprove your own point?True Socialism is never enforced by violence or the threat thereof. If that is happening, then the government in question is quite clearly not Socialist.

Actually, red states are a much better model for socialism, seeing as the vast preponderance of them take more aid in Federal income taxes then they ever give back. In effect, FORCING people who actually work and make money in blue states to pay for the 'others' in red states... well, less like socialism, more like a parasitic tick. Please see Louisiana, Mississippi, West Virginia, Alabama, ad nauseum.

My favorite are people with NRA stickers on their house, advertising that there are probably guns in the house. I am a Life Member, but I don't display NRA stickers / logos on my house or car. Yes, I am a gay Democrat and an NRA life member.
