portagame.com — Very well-written open letter to GameCrazy describing a truly awful experience his wife had trying to buy him an accessory. Nothing hurts more than the truth! While I don't think it's indicative of ALL GameCrazy locations, I certainly hope that this store loses business after people read about this abusive treatment!

If you walk into ANY store and no employees offer to help you, try walking up to one and saying "Can you help me?" Standing around waiting for someone to come to you and then getting pissed is ridiculous. Get proactive, woman!Had this woman simply asked for some assistance, the whole incident probably could have been avoided.

RTFA. She asked for help, and this is what she got...

Honestly the state of customer service today is such that they really won't give a rat's ass whether you shop there again or not. Your wife's experience is part of a trend in service industry that has grown dramatically over the past several years to treat the customer as a low-life (ignore them, verbally abuse them, mock them, etc.) And quite often, you'll get that same story about the person being the owner or the manager. That's a favorite response these days including "I have no manager" or "the supervisor is busy" or "the supervisor can't accept phone calls" or "the supervisor doesn't have email" or "you have to write to this address and an escalation department will handle your situation." Then you want to report the employee and "I can't give out my employee id" "I can't give out my last name" "I can't give you my supervisor" etc...Customers are treated like s**t these days and retailers don't give a damn anymore. Know why? All those snot nosed jerks who were customer reps just a few years ago are now the snot-nosed managers!

Ok, I'm not defending the Vegas Game Crazy staff at all, in fact it shouldn't have been handled that way at all. Sadly, This is not the first time that I've heard terrible stories like this coming from the Vegas region. But I can also guarantee that things didn't happen quite like the story was told. They never do. I have been in retail for my entire professional career, going on 9 years; and I can definately say that while there are TONS of problems with the way that employees act these days, there are also a plethora of problems with the way customers conduct themselves. You can blame it on the retailers, you can blame it on the customers; but when it comes right down to it, PEOPLE are just becoming worse. I have jumped around from position to position in various companies and I have just come to conclude that either you are going to act like a jerk or not. I am a store manager at present and I can tell you that while there have been times that I have let people get under my skin and really piss me off, I can tell you that there are even more times where I have had to bend and even break the rules to help customers out. Most of the time, they appreciate it. Sometimes though, it doesn't matter what you do for them they will yell, kick, and scream until they get their way. And it is becoming more frequent. I can't tell you how many times I have been threatened just for following policy. Nothing against customers, but sometimes everyone sucks.

Similar experience here. I went to the local GameCrazy outlet here in Rochester, MN to purchase a refurb PS2 console for my Father-in-law who really loved the old GT titles but after his old PS2 shut down has not been able to play for a while. I really like the guy so I bought him a refurb since he already has the old titles he enjoys. Well I dont want to get into the whole Ps2 vs. Xbox, PS3 vs 360, This was the first PS purchase I have made since PS1. Wink Wink, XBOX Fan. Anyhoo while I was there I picked up Lost Planet for the 360 but when I got to the service counter and requested the refurb PS2I could tell this kid was just itching to say something about the purchase. He was barely 18 (maybe).I am 31 and many probably would not guess that I am a game freak. He placed the refurb box on the counter and said with a smirk "You sure you want to buy this piece of junk?" I could not believe those words came out of his mouth. My G-friend looked at me sideways. On the spot I decided to play him up a bit and asked, "I dont know. I have heard good things about Lost Planet. Should I buy a new PS2?" haha wink wink. I pushed the title toward him on the counter. Oh man now, I could see his gears really turning. He stammered. "This is a 360 game....." I cut him off. "just ring it up" I paid and left the store. Hindsite: I have a Gamespot membership. Next time I will drive across town instead of going there just because its closer to walmart. ;)
