news.yahoo.com — The Vatican's chief astronomer says that believing in aliens does not contradict faith in God. The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, says that the vastness of the universe means it is possible there could be other forms of life outside Earth, even intelligent ones.

I think the 'let there be light' refers to what an Earth observer might notice. I don't think anybody can say how God might have created things. He might have put every atom in its place, or used a more sophisticated means. That is what science is all about, find out what happened, not who did it.

Well yeah, but the guy who first proposed the theory based his inspiration on that particular passage of the bible (among other things of course).

Well, there is evidence out there that suggests the Vatican has been studying alien life for a while now. They seem to follow the idea of "wormwood" being the so called planet X and its inhabitants the annunaki.

A founding principle of Catholic Belief:There is no contradiction betweenTruth and Faith. In fact, real faith is seeking Truth. Objective external scientific truth, subjective internal truths, relationships and interpersonal truth, etc.In the past, the FAITH part was emphasized with brutal force crushing other cultures, murdering scientists, unbelievers, etc.But now the Church plays nice andfocuses on removing any false belief that can be proven wrong by objective scientific discovery.Life absolutely exists somewhere else, the universe is too outrageously HUGE to only have 1 out of Trillions of planets with life. Now, if we can only figure out that string theory / multi-dimensional hyperspace warp drive problem - we could finally visit other worlds...
