linux.com — Sometimes I get the feeling that I only know about 5% of what VLC can do. Everyone knows it's a dependable, free, cross-platform media player. But read through the release notes for the latest version, 0.9.2, and you will see a dizzying array of server, network streaming, and conversion functions, most of which I have never even touched.

I believe this bug is related to the fact you've got an optical mouse. If there is a tiny bit of dirt in an optical mouse it sometimes "vibrates" 1 pixel sideways every few seconds, as if it can't decide which pixel to sit on. That causes VLC to think you've moved the mouse and triggers it to show the menu.See if the issue is fixed by unplugging the mouse - if it is, then you need to clean your mouse or use it on a better surface.Note: other media players don't have this problem because they require the mouse be moved more than a certain distance before the menu is moved, which mean only very bad optical mice cause the issue.

I know what you mean. VLC under Windows also has that annoying LAG when you pause / resume a part of the video.Under OS X and Linux, the pause is instant.
