"So you're saying you would travel around on ice at around 30mph with razers on your feet and limited visibility? Is a serious injury like paralysis or lacerations worth the time?"Don't you see, this would make hockey worth watching for once.
I was at the game. It was unseasonably hot that week and the rink doesn't have air conditioning (why would a hockey rink need AC if no games are played before November in Boston?). This isn't shocking news. Games have been called on fog in the NHL before, and it continues to be a problem in both college and professional hockey when weather is unusual or systems malfunction.Oh well. The game will be rescheduled, and BC won the game at BU 1-0 the next night.
Smart move to postpone the game. For the first month of the season this year, in Geneva (Switzerland) at the Vernets Patinoire, when temperatures were above 20 Celsius outside, the fog was so thick on the ice that we couldn't see either end of the rink from the bench, and couldn't tell whether a goal had been scored. A good thing given an 8-1 thrashing, which we would have gladly done over without the fog..
Edmonton Vs. Boston in 1988 stanley Cup final game 4.The game was eventually cancelled due to electrical failure (which may explain the fog as well). They resceduled the game in Edmonton at what was then the Northlands Coliseum. The Oilers won sweeping the series 4-0.
I also totally read that as called on account of FROG lol.. i clicked thinking why in the world would they call a game on account of a frog.. But FOG? yeah i can see why.. and its hardly the first time.. doesn't anyone remember the Oilers vs Bruins Stanley Cup game that had to be replayed due to fog in Boston Garden, i was there, i think it was game 3 in 85 or 86.. dont recall exactly.. you couldnt see the players on the ice, i dont see how they could have kept playing, and if they did it would have sucked, no one in the place would have been able to see the game.. oh well.. but a frog invasion may have been much much worse.. LOL.

It's probably due to the lack of humidification as the other poster said. It was a NCAA game, so their stadium probably wasn't fancy.

The temp outside was 70 degrees. Because the building doesn't have air conditioners the temp inside was 80 degrees (all that body heat). When the warm air hit the cold air just above the ice, fog was formed. It is all explained here: http://www.uscho.com/news/id,13215/FogOfWarBCBUGamePostponedDueToHighTemperatures.html
