thinkprogress.org — Yesterday, Sen. McCain bragged to CNN about how safe Iraq is. Tday, CNN’s John Roberts rebutted McCain’s assertions, stating, “I checked with General Petraeus’s people overnight and they said he never goes out in anything less than an up-armored humvee.” McCain then backtracked on his remarks.

It's probably in the President's best interest to go around America with protection now. I'm sure if he didn't, there would be a few people out there willing to risk a lot to make sure he's...um...out of office.

Sadly compton and detroit are like a playground compared to even the best parts of bagdad.

I'm a Republican, and I don't think this guy will be getting my vote. Why can't anyone just tell it like it is and let it stand on its own merits? All he had to say is that overall, violence is down in Baghdad, but it's still not safe. The "surge" is working to bring the level of violence down, but we need to give it more time.Instead, he speaks off-the-cuff about things of which he is apparently unaware, and behold, it gives him and other Republicans a black eye. I think that most politicians (on BOTH sides of the isle) like to hear themselves speak and don't qualify their remarks enough.

McCain used to have some personal integrity, but once he married himself to the Bush Administration he can't stop lying and faced with those lies he lies to distance himself from them. It's sad how the cancer on the presidency has metastasized to all of the GOP candidates except Congressman Ron Paul.

Reminds me of the old joke about how you tell if x is lying....Their lips are moving. boom boom (an old Basil Brush way of ending a punchline)

McCain is tries to play both ends against the middle. He has gotten like Bush, he says one thing and then does something different or denies that is what he said or it was not in context. The more McCain talks the less I like him. I supported him in 2000 until he let Bush walk all over him and not respond with the truth. I would not vote for now if he won the nomination. I do not think he will win the republican nomination, if he does, the republicans are dumber than I think they are. He tries to appease the moderates and then turns right around kiss up to most ridiculous so called conservatives that only want to dictate to the world how to live, act, eat, and call themselves Christians and do not practice anything close to what the Bible teaches. I would ask them, how did the people of the first church live? How did they treat all the people who came to accept the gift of God thought Jesus Christ? How did they treat the each other? How did they live? I wonder if any of them ever read of the Samaritan that lay wounded on the road and what did the most religious of that day did?
