thinkprogress.org — Last night, Fox News host Bill O?Reilly -- who has said the phrase ?Happy Holidays? is ?insulting to Christian America? -- announced that his show is gearing up ?for the holidays.? After a awkward pause, O?Reilly apparently remembered that we are in the middle of a ?War on Christmas? and tried to fix his mistake. He added, ?..and Christmas and Chan

CopperFalcon:"In short, they don't want equal treatment, they want special treatment."I totally agree, but I don't think it's just that they WANT special treatment - it's that they're USED to it. Similarly, an unfortunately large amount of Christians believe that our government (which is far more religious than it has any right to be at the point in time) and school systems are "turning against" Christianity; what they fail to realize is that it only seems that way because our institutions have always had a heavily pro-Christian subtext. Keep in mind that they're (largely) not trying to be dicks about it - this stuff travels by word-of-mouth, and they all hear a second-hand, exaggerated version from one another. I live in a heavily Conservative-Christian area, and hear these half-truths all the time - they may start as malicious propaganda, but in the end your average Joe C. Christian doesn't mean harm by it.In other words - as you said - they're merely downgrading Christianity to the same status as other religions instead of putting it on an unconstitutional pedestal. What angry Christians refuse to see is that they've always had an unfair advantage in civic life...and despite the 'downgrade,' still do.

lets not forget yule it predates most of the others ;POh wait, unless you're part of the religious right maybe "Holidays" isn't a bad term.I don't mind being told merry christmas... why should the christians mind being told happy holidays?
shadusDec 3, 2006
beyond that... christs birthday wasn't in december... nor is christmas a holiday the christians invented... its a holiday used to help conversions of other faiths and if you replace a holiday with a similar one the conversion is easier.

This will never be read, but everyone participates in the digg community in their own way. They submit their content for review. Personally, I really go through the upcoming stories, but digg things that make the front page and frequently comment. This is what's great about digg, its a community that can be participated in in any different ways. Too bad you don't seem to get that.
