Yes, we need more digg's! 15 isn't going to cut it.. so spread the word! I'm doing what I can on my end. I do wish that I had more time to spread the word, the 10th of January doesn't give me much time at all. btw, thanks for digging this KR12!Rex
Charity advertising, although ethical and unselfish, is still advertising. However, at least with these small organizations I know my money is being used it which it was intended.
You could of saved us all a lot of time by:emailing me at soloride@gmail.comreading my blog! This link would been a good place to start (which is in the side bar of my blog):<a class="user" href="http://8wishes.blogspot.com/2006/12/goal-is-to-raise-1-million-dollars-for.html">http://8wishes.blogspot.com/2006/12/goal-is-to-raise-1-million-dollars-for.html</a>I'm not a charity I'm a person that is fundraising for <a class="user" href="http://www.dyslexiacenter.org">http://www.dyslexiacenter.org</a> which has been around for 15 years! Also I'm not taking a dime from this fundraiser. Also I shared a room with my friend Robert for $350 a month at the Carpinteria address.Might as well update my address info why were at it:505 Red Rose LnSanta Barbara, ca 93109Just know if you come over to stalk me that I'm 6'2" and weigh 225 pounds and that my friends that I hang out with me make me look small. So we would be happy to have a little chat with you :)Well were at it here is my number too:805.456.2130 (disposable number which can be disconnected in two seconds)And yes my friend at Serberus is donating his time to help me! He is not charging a dime!Don't mean to come off as a jerk its 4am and I have a lot of work to do and right now I'm a little grumpy and your making a person with dyslexia write you which is not my strength. Also the band comment makes no since to me. But here goes... Are you saying were not legitimate if we use music to help raise funds? William again offered his free time to help me make some cool videos to bring more traffic to 8wishes.com Feel free to email me too. Thanks for your feedbackPaul
Ouch! I simply performed about 15 minutes of due diligence before making a donation. On the surface, this charity sounded like a great idea. I've donated to Swords to Plowshares in SF, Casa de Las Madres, and other local charities in the past, and all provide the public transparency into their finances.I still haven't found any public and verifiable records related to Paul's charity and he hasn't posted direct links to such important data (or I missed it). From a moral and legal perspective, what I did is called research or due diligence, not cyber-stalking. I have never contacted Paul directly and have no intention to bother him. If performing research is bad, maybe we shouldn't question any "warm and fuzzy" charity using viral marketing. Also, Paul writes that he has dyslexia. I don't dispute this, however here's an entry from his now defunct <a class="user" href="http://www.perimeter.us">http://www.perimeter.us</a> site guest book from an online archive: <a class="user" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20040608121551/www.perimeter.us/guestbook.html">http://web.archive.org/web/20040608121551/www.perimeter.us/guestbook.html</a>"hey paul, good luck man! i had no idea you graduated with me in may, and i had no idea that you had dislexia - crazy, cause you made through business law alright... this is a good cause and i hope you raise a lot of money for those kids! you are in my prayers for sure and what size shirt are you by the way (maybe some epic life hook ups if i have your size...) PEACE!"austin USA - Friday, June 04, 2004 at 03:05:16 (EDT)Again, if a few posters really believe that taking a closer look into a charity's or even a politician's contributors constitutes cyberstalking, then please don't visit <a class="user" href="http://www.give.org">http://www.give.org</a> or <a class="user" href="http://www.fec.gov">http://www.fec.gov</a> to use their online database to research donations. Finally, I wish any legitimate children's charity well and am always open to donating to any children's charity that makes their financial records publicly available, small or large. It's just a shame that instead of reassuring me in this case, I have been lambasted by Paul and a few of his over 6'2" 225 pound supporters. Is that the way legitimate charities respond to legitimate questions?Thank you - G2SF
@g2sf:I'm going to respond to this with a huge "f**k YOU".Seriously, who the f**k are you to think that just because you can google, you have the right to accuse something of being a scam?If you would have noticed, the number does indeed google to a company that did illegal dealings. It also is the number used in my whois. How could this be? Well if you took the time to read the WHOIS information, it says:Registrant Contact: WhoisGuard WhoisGuard Protected (Whois Privacy and Spam Prevention by DomainTools.com) +1.6613102107 Fax: +1.6613102107 8939 S. Sepulveda Blvd 8939 S. Sepulveda Blvd Westchester, CA 90045 US Yes, that's right. I use a WHOIS protection. Did you really think my email address was as long and confusing as the one in the WHOIS? Did "WHOIS Guard" not set off a series of alarms in your head before you jumped to the conclusion that it was my actual contact information? The number listed is the number of Whois Guard, as service of my registrar, NameCheap.com. It is also the number and address of anyone else who uses Whois Guard, including people who do scams. So before you go on to post a comment that not only tries to make a charity such as 8 Wishes look shady, but to make me look shady... maybe you should think about researching your information a little bit further than a google search, and think about how much your faulty information could hurt people if it is believed. And for those who don't believe me, research yourself:<a class="user" href="http://www.whois.sc/Sirberus.com">http://www.whois.sc/Sirberus.com</a>
@Gs2f, I salute anyone who is willing to research things... but what you fail to realize is research is only good if the person doing it is cabable of... researching. In your case, you managed to check out a bunch of websites, so you say, yet you failed to see that my site uses a WHOIS privacy company, which uses the same number on all of its clients, which means you will find many types of sites, good and bad, using the same number as me.So yes, I encourage research, but I also encourage not researching if you can't do it right.Your "research" is no different than so many other types of people who "find a conclusion" which makes someone look horrible until someone else has to do real research to find out that the first research was a lie.If you are researching a potatoe, feel free to be lazy. If you are researching people, just ask yourself if you would want someone making a false conclusion on you.I spend so much of my life and time helping people, so excuse my language in the post above, but people like you are dangerous. People like you who say they researched something trick people that believe people who research something (even in this thread there are those who say "I really hope gs2f isn't right" instead of saying "I'm going to find out if gs2f is right".
Believe it or not, I don't blame you for questioning the validity of this project. I'll be the first to admit that 8 Wishes needs to do a better job communicating information about the organization. But with a tight deadline and little resources, we can do nothing but hope that people will find faith and trust in Paul. I think the point you're missing, G2SF, is that this is not the right place and that was not the right way to ask those questions. If you have questions about the legitimacy of a charity, the first place to find answers is by going to the source. As Paul has always said, he is more than happy to give anyone a few minutes of his time. Posting that kind of personal attack is not an appropriate use of this forum and the community's time.
@allmycausescouldn't agree with you more. As a lover of philosophy, I believe that everything should have the ability to be questioned, even if it is something such as a charity... however you have to not only choose appropriate times, but be willing to put in the effort, which gs2f did not, to research something before attacking its reputation.
