vlog.rheingold.com— A slice of cyberculture history: Over twenty years ago, people who met online began to meet in person at the WELL office in Sausalito. These interviews are from a WELL party, 1989.

The Well was not the first BBS, and the first "BBS meet" as they are (were) called was much earlier than 1989, but I do think The Well is the first at one thing: they're the #1 most self-consciously, over-rated group of elitist, pseudo-intellectual snobs. If that counts for anything.
LOL. Yeah, and to be honest, I was probably the one with the slowest connection (by early 90s people usually had faster modems). Man, I bet you can just imagine the excitement I felt when my mom bought a 14.4K modem! ;D
I remember BBS and later the internet IRC, it looks so primitive now comparing to the web 2.0 social networks and live messengers we have today. Back in those days video chat sounded like science fiction!
Meanwhile, users of the POPNet social network, just across the bay from Sausalito, had been meeting for regular parties and other activities since 1984.
