twistedmelon.com — Want to run Front Row on your PPC Mac with the Apple Remote? Using mira software and an off the shelf USB IR receiver, you can now use the Apple Remote on any Mac! The best part is that you're not limited to Front Row -- any application can be configured to use the Apple Remote with fully customizable button actions.

This could be very useful when Leopard ships with Front Row included in it.

It would be great if they added support for the IR receiver that's already built in to Apple's Universal iPod Dock.I posted a comment about it on their forums.http://in.mypocket.com/index.php?showtopic=1168

There's nothing new about this product. Salling Clicker had Front Row plug-in for a while (so you could use your cellphone as the controller), ATI Remote Wonder reportedly works with Front Row no problem. As mentioned above, Keyspan also has a couple of products that could work with Front Row. I believe Griffin AirClick USB also works with Front Row through a little hack. Having said that, I still welcome new additions to the family of hardwares to work with Front Row. Keep'em coming!

I would have to disagree about it being the same as what's already available. Clearly there are existing options like the ATI Remote Wonder that work with Front Row, but if you see the title of this story it's not about controlling Front Row but about using the Apple Remote. The style, simplicity and form factor of the Apple Remote appeals to a lot of people -- and this is something that has not been available to legacy users until today. I also have a Remote Wonder and it's been useful, but when you're trying to use it for let's say controlling a powerpoint presentation or iTunes, it's simply too bulky with too many buttons.Of course the best part is that mira allows you to control any application, so it opens up a whole lot more than just Front Row.
