treehugger.com — Consider, David Wetzel, a 79 yr old retired chemist from Decatur IL. He's been using recycled vegetable oil to "gas up" his 1985 Volkswagen Golf diesel car for 7 years. He has shown off his car in energy fairs, universities and exhibits. In Jan, the IL Dept. of Revenue sent 2 "special agents," Gary May and John Egan to his house.

Ah, those were the days. Tar and feather the revenuer, and they call _you_ the patriot!Don't worry, someone will bring up "paying for all the government services", but I'm really tired of being "serviced" by government at all levels."If you don't pay for the license plate, they put you in prison and you end up making them." --L. He should pay tax on a product he's producing for himself because the tax laws say that this is taxed. What taxes are fair? Is it fair that you should be taxed because you work for someone and get paid? That you should be taxed because you live in a house or because you buy something?

I've read studies that say that modern roads are not damaged by normal vehicles at all. The only noticeable damage over a given amount of time comes from those giant Semis, their cargo, and other very heavy vehicles. A little 2000 pound car doesn't do s**t. Also, they could pay for the roads with the federal income tax since that tax goes toward NOTHING. Look into it, pretty much all of it just gets put into the Federal Reserve (which is in no way a federal entity).Oh and maybe we could take the Spanish-American War tax out of gasoline as well.

@smuikasI know how we can pay for road upkeep...Rather than waste another 100 billion dollars in Iraq...We use that money for road upkeep. Problem solved.

There are some rodeo clowns with a shred of common sense. Here is an update to the Illinois revenue case- Go Mr. Wetzel! IL SB0267 look at http://12.43.67.2/legislation/billstatus.asp?DocNum=0267&GAID=9&GA=95&DocTypeID=SB&LegID=27787&SessionID=51Basically says that you can use up to 5000 gallons without filing for taxes (excludes 99.99% of private consumers)
